Library Windows

We spent one Saturday morning decorating the library windows with quilts that will be donated to Project Linus. One window is full of quilts that were designed by kids at the library in October. The quilters then sewed the blocks together and quilted them. The other window has quilts that the quilters made.

We will take the quilts out in early January and replace them with other quilts.

Library Windows

We will be decorating the windows the months of November, December and January.  In the past we have crammed the windows with our quilts. We have done a good job and it has looked nice but I'd like to do it a little different this year. We need signs identifying who we are, when we meet and what we do.

For November we will have the quilts that we have made for Project Linus in one window and the Fairy Quilts in the other. We will have a contest with the Fairy Quilts for Viewers Choice. We will mark the quilts with a number and have the public vote on which one they like the best. At the end of the month the votes will be tallied, a winner determined and a prize awarded.

We will change out the quilts in December. The Project Linus quilts will get donated and we will put our personal quilts in the windows. Let's try to have our Scrappy Trips Around The World Quilts finished enough to be displayed in one window. It's a project that a lot of us have done and even though it is the same pattern, they all look different. The other window can have a variety.

For January we could change the windows again. One window could show what we use to make our quilts, mats, rulers, rotary cutters, etc. We could have some fabric pieces cut and some blocks made.  We could make some signs explaining the process. The other window could have some more of our quilts.

Project Linus Work Day

Monday August 5th is a day we meet at the library to sew to benefit Project Linus. Someone will be there from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. We have quilts that need designing, fabric to be cut and squares to be sewn. Bring your sewing machine or just yourself. There is something for everyone to do.

Come for all day or a short time. Everyone is welcome to join us for sharing, caring and laughter. See you then.

Borders

Do you need to make that quilt larger by adding borders?
Do you want something other than plain borders?

Check out the borders at Quilter's Cache or at TLC Quilt Borders.
There are several border options that would add interest to a panel.  Or embellish your borders with rick rack, ribbon or lace.

Challenge

As you all know, Happy Heart quilt shop has closed. Yvonne donated some fabric to our group for use in Project Linus quilts. Among the fabric were these 2 panels by Michael Miller fabrics. I have a total of 26 panels.

I challenge each of you to design a quilt using one of the panels. The panel is 24" wide by the width of fabric. You can do as many as you want but each one needs to be different. I would like to display the completed quilts in October when we display the quilts the kids design.

Road Trip Quilt

I saw this quilt at Cluck Cluck Sew and thought it would be perfect for Project Linus. You can get the pattern free here. It finishes 36"x40".  Ten fabrics cut  4 1/2" WOF make this. This would look great using scraps or coordinated fabrics.

Kids Creating Quilts

As part of our Project Linus quilt making, we will partner with the kids who come to the library for story time. The kids will make their own paper quilts during the Wednesday, Oct. 2 story time; a craft they could take home. On Thursday, Oct. 3, kids will design quilts using fabric squares we have cut ahead of time. The Quilting Bee’s will sew the squares together on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Riverside.  The finished quilt tops will be displayed for the kids to see during the next story time, Wednesday, Oct. 9th.

Prior to October, we need to gather, cut and sew 6 1/2" squares for the kids to create the quilts. A quilt will be 6-7 squares across and 7-9 squares down. These squares can be pieced, as in 4 patch or 9 patch blocks, which will use some of our smaller pieces.
